Unrest is a documentary film told by bedridden Jennifer Brea through the lens of her camera, a story of resilience in the face of life-altering loss, exploring how we treat people with illnesses we do not yet understand — how confronting the fragility of life teaches us its value and, ultimately, how we all have the need to find community and connection. We all go through the journey of life alone. Whether you are partnered or single, each of us has to face the day, live in the moment and end it triumphantly. But it's hard when we want to control everything - the people around us, our current situations, even the future. As humans, we like to take control. It scares us what tomorrow may bring or something unexpected happens. That's why we like the idea of knowing the future through mediums, monks, spirits or simply just by flipping a coin :P No matter how we like to know about the future, life present itself unexpectedly... When we are struck by unexpected circumstances like loss, illness, pain, we long for someone to understand us. In the olden days, tribes survived not because they had enough food or a great hunter but there was a community to shared with. As our technology progressed, we lose human connections and has been replaced with our phones. When we are feeling down, instead of talking to our loved ones, we use social media to let the world know that we want validation.
We also turn to internet if we want more information about the weather, what will happen tomorrow and more. When we can't get what we want now, we'd like to find the answers now! Internet has all the answers. - I wonder if how many search results are true and valid. I don't know about you but I want to take a time off from the internet and let the day present itself. I want to cherish the now than thinking of what I have to do tomorrow. I wanted to be connected with my friends and loved ones face to face than talking to them online. I wanted to see their expressions, and their body language - the warmth of their smile, the touch, all those things that we can't do online. I'm not saying that I don't have worries in life. I do! It stresses me out too. I used to be the person who like to control everything. I used to freaked out when things don't go my way. It's either I questioned the situation or blamed the universe - why they are not giving it to me. We like to fight for it - our options, thinking it's the best for us. What's the secret of letting go of control? Live in the present. What's been done yesterday has already gone and tomorrow is another day so live for today and end it with a purpose. We can't just create meaning without real connections. Sitting in front of the computer can't be called human connection (unless you have illness like Jennifer Brea) but do we have to wait to be bedridden for us to get in touch with people? Feel the grass under your feet, smell the flowers, sing and dance like there's no tomorrow. Call your loved ones or a friend that you haven't talk to for a long time. And when things don't happen like you expect, still appreciate the moment and say - "my world is alright, everything is right."
