I am so sick of online life. Yes, hearing from someone who live and breathe on the digital world. What I'm complaining about is not the technology, it's us humans. We are already devoured by the social media platforms. Our human minds are regressing than producing intelligence using technology. Let me paint you a picture of how we, as generation of techy people behave online. It's crazy out there! #highonhumans 1. Facebook is dead. When I started as a digital marketer 10 years ago, there's no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin - no social sites at all. We solely rely on engineering we called optimisation, linkbuilding and article writing that we know as SEO. Youtube was on beta and only for the sole purpose of uploading the videos and sharing it on place pages of Google. Now, since social sites are being indexed by Google, it's a handy tool for marketers and we're no longer be bothered to make efforts on link building and article writing ever since social sites became part of the business. Facebook and other social sites were created for one purpose - to connect with people. We lost that human connection, instead we use social media to air our dirty laundry, make excessive noises about our lives and other's people lives. We forget to be resourceful, creative and use our human intelligence. As a marketer, I felt a huge decline of "effectiveness" of doing business on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. Point A: Users or audience has been bombarded with too much products. They are no longer interested to check out the brand itself- I aint got no time, scrolling through. Why would I bother to click and read if I can browse, browse, and browse..keep it going. I am running local brands on Facebook (Philippines as target market), consumer driven focus. The products being advertised has descriptions and prices shown on it but most of the queries the pages has received were "how much is the price?", "what materials is it made of?" "what's the sizes/length" when all of these details were clearly shown on the description. If you are the customer service of one of these brands, for sure you'll get tired of answering hundred of times when it's clearly shown on visuals or all over the business page. Users/audience are too lazy to do anything on the page. Even though they have high interest on the product or most likely to buy, what do you usually do? Yep. Hit the like button. We don't bother to read the caption or click read more/learn more or anything that requires us to take action. There's so many posts on my newsfeed why bother to read? I have to keep on scrolling, there's too much I don't want to miss. Point B: We are now a generation of a 1 minute rule in 2018, down to a 3 minute rule in 2016. No one writes mail anymore. Who would stick around, patiently wait for a mail to arrive in 3 months? Or read an article with 5,000 words? For sure you'll get bored and scroll up to the end. Hmm..I will not be surprised if you missed out the essence of this post too. Even on videos, when we see a 4 minute or 5 minute video on our feed, we skipped all the way til the end the frame- because we can't hold our breath for a f*cking 5 minutes to find out what happened. Young people can no longer comprehend instructions with 5 steps or if I keep talking nonstop for full 10 minutes. They will forget it anyway in few seconds so I have to limit a 5 step into one rule and a speech of 2 minutes top. And last one, no one writes in full text now. IDKY!! (I don't know about You). So we forget spellings, even the proper word what is it called? oh yeah vocabulary!! 2. Humans are no longer humans online but a bot, an AI mimicking the digital noise. How many of you are posting comments on pages, products and people you personally don't know online nor any business with the products or the brand itself? We see threads full of hate from the users are common on social platforms. How often do we get involved? Do we take time to pause and ask ourselves why are we making remarks to a post, person or brand that we are not even connected with? What happened to humans who were created to think and choose? If only our gadgets can talk, they will surely say "don't blame it on me". 3. We are becoming single minded like a horse with blinders. Our traffic situation is the best example of how we think nowadays. It's all about ME! Who says about "giving?" Do you believe in "the more you give, the more you will receive?"
We're no longer a generation that "I have to think of other people. It's all about me." I don't mind if I'm inconveniencing someone. Or I'm getting in the way or whatever it is that I have to think of others. Words of compassion and consideration are not in our vocabulary, if a vocabulary exists. We forget the words "etiquettes" and "manners". We need to be reminded that every part in our body, the strands of our hair, every single cells are numbered, carefully hand crafted by our Creator. Therefore, we are special human beings, with intelligence higher than the animals and of all things. It's so sad that we are acting like robots, lifeless streams passing through just to get by. RESET. We have 5 senses and when frequently use, it can reach higher stimuli. We can smell fragrance, someone else's cooking and we can tell what are those things. We hear a song or a sound and we can recall memories, or as in depth as title, artist, and year released. Another example is when you are a chef or a cook. On a daily basis of cooking and preparation, you don't need to taste every dish you created, the smell tells it all. You can tell right away the ingredients used when you dine in or tasted a new cuisine. Let's make good use of those 5 senses. Let's reset to our human forms. We are not bots who are programmed to auto response. We are freely given the options to make good choices in life. We are higher beings who doesn't need to automate our daily routines. LET'S LIVE LIKE HUMANS DO How about waking up early and catch the sun rise and do a short walk? Forget the routines. Put down that phone. How about make someone happy one day at a time? Show kindness, give, be someone else's cheerleader 365 days. How about pause for awhile and notice what you feel? Let's practice self awareness. How about challenge yourself to do the things that you don't usually do? Get out of your comfort zone. Are you happy from the moment you wake up and the time you go to bed? Let's not use technology to escape from our lonely selves.
