When the weather is gloomy and cold, so our emotions are. Some of us are wishing for another warm body to be with, "Oh I feel lonely, I wish I have someone I can spend the holidays with." Hold it right there my friends. Are you in love with the idea of having someone so you can get rid of your own emptiness? Are you obsessively thinking about the guy to call you or ask you out? Are you attempting to get back with your ex because loneliness set in? Are you thinking of reaching out to those people you cut ties with? Remember that they are no longer in your life for some reasons. Why you don't want to be with you? Give yourself a gift of love and solitude.
Few years ago, I obsessively got the guy that I wanted and I received what I deserved for chasing myself away. I didn't recognise that I was lonely. Buried it and pretended I was fine. I entertained myself by shopping and obsessively getting the attention of the guy I liked in exchange of my self esteem. After the holidays, the guy that I was pinning for and overly obsessed with, walked out on me for a few times because he can't handle the holiday stress and I wanted to kick myself for letting him do that to me. I also went to the gatherings that I don't want to be involved with but just to escaped myself from loneliness, I'd rather be in worst company -What was I thinking?! I reached out for those people that I haven't talked for years and in the middle of the conversations, it dawned on me, "that's why I cut ties with these people". If you are scrolling your contacts right now, browsing your social media feed, I'm asking you to stop right now. No contact is the safest way for you to enjoy the holiday than making yourself hurt or choose the wrong decisions based on your mood. Go on airplane mode, turn off your wifi. Treat yourself on a good spa or dinner. It's better to spend your money, go shopping than getting back to your ex. It's also the great time of the year to declutter, get back to fitness, where less people are hitting the gym. Or as simple as waking up early for a good morning run. You don't need to wait for new year to start new routines, cultivate new habits. Start now. I hope my story serve as a reminder that it's better to be alone than be with someone and feel miserable. Always choose YOU.
